The LIFE CITRUSPACK team has become a finalist for the prestigious 2021 Sustainable Awards. The revolutionary bio-jars and bio-bottles developed from citrus pulp and peel will compete for the title of this year's most innovative packaging product, evaluated by a jury of world experts from across the value chain.
The winners will be announced at the European Packaging, Technology and Process Fair, with the final ceremony on 29 September in Nuremberg (Germany). More than 300 R&D proposals competed and only four per category were selected.
The products achieved in CITRUSPACK configure the complete cycle of the circular economy while improving market opportunities for farmers and producers. A bioplastic material (petroleum-free) was additivated with natural fibre from citrus peel and pulp and used to build the bottle and jar, obtaining industrial compostability validation under European parameters.
